For those who don't know, BlackPlanet is an African-American social networking site that gained peak popularity in the late '90s and early 2000s. The same founder also launched AsianAve and MiGente.

Anyway, back to our friend and his heyday account: It's pretty incredible in so many ways. But let's count the ways:

The footballer and his father, Jorge, were handed down a 21-month sentence for tax fraud by a Spanish court but are unlikely to serve time.

Under Spanish law, prison sentences under two years can be served on probation.

Messi and his father were found guilty of three counts of tax fraud by a court in Barcelona on Wednesday.

In June, a court heard that the pair defrauded the Spanish tax authorities of around €4 million (£3.4 million) over three years. Tax havens in Uruguay and Belize were used to shield money made off the back of Messi's image.

The court ordered the footballer to repay €1.4 million (£1.7 million), and his father €1.2 million (£1.27 million), after concluding that while Jorge Messi was primarily responsible, his son knew enough about his finances to also be held accountable.

Lionel Messi had maintained throughout the trial he "knew nothing" about his father's actions, and was only interested in playing football.

The 29-year-old player, who unexpectedly announced his retirement from international football only last week, said he had never expected any wrong-doing from his father.

Messi made an "upfront" payment of €5 million in August 2013, apparently equivalent to his unpaid taxes.

He remains one of the best-paid sportspeople in the world. Last year, he earned an estimated €70 million (£60 million), according to Forbes.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the Miami community and especially #HEATNATION for all of their love and support over the years. It has been truly incredible. I am deeply moved and appreciative of the positive messages from my fans expressing that they want what's best for me and I know they will support my decision. The memories including championship parades and five conference titles are incredible moments we have shared that will always remain close to my heart as I begin the next chapter of my life.

Growing up in Robbins, Ill., I never dreamed that an NBA career could have even been possible and that one day I would wear a Chicago Bulls jersey. Watching the Bulls growing up inspired me at an early age to pursue my dream of becoming a basketball player. My most treasured memories were watching my dad play basketball on the courts of Fermi Elementary School and developing my game at the Blue Island Recreation Center. I have never forgotten where I came from and I am thankful to have an opportunity to play for the team that first fueled my love of the game. Many of my family members still live in Chicago and I am excited to return home to a city very close to my heart.

Duncan was a five-time NBA Champion, 15-time All-Star, and two-time NBA MVP.

The Spurs were NBA Champions in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. Duncan was named Finals MVP in 1999, 2003, and 2005. In a press release, the NBA notes Duncan is the only NBA player in history with over "9,000 career minutes in the playoffs."

The league also notes Duncan's time with the Spurs led to a "1,072-438 regular season record, giving the team a .710 winning percentage, which is the best 19-year stretch in NBA history and was the best in all of the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB over the last 19 years."

Duncan is known for his understated personality. Fittingly, Duncan's retirement announcement contained no quotes from Duncan himself, nor is he scheduled to appear at a Tuesday press conference with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. He will hold a separate press conference, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

"His devotion to excellence and mastery of the game led five NBA championships, two regular-season MVP awards and a place among the all-time greats, while his understated selflessness made him the ultimate teammate. For two decades Tim represented the Spurs, the city of San Antonio and the league with passion and class. All of us in the NBA family thank him for his profound impact on the game."

Green is a Michigan native and attended Michigan State, in East Lansing.

A court document says Green was arrested at 2:28 AM Sunday morning for assault or assault & battery. He was released on $200 bond.

East Lansing Lieutenant Scott Wrigglesworth told BuzzFeed News the altercation was with another male, who was uninjured. Wrigglesworth described it as "a beef between two guys." Charges have been sent to the City Attorney, who told BuzzFeed News he has not received official paperwork.

Green has 10 days to return to East Lansing to be arraigned. According to Green's Snapchat, he was in Manhattan Monday morning.

Wrigglesworth said Green's mugshot will be released soon, but that he might not get to it today. "There are a lot of other photos of him out there," he said.

Green was drafted by the Warriors in 2012 and is a member of the 2015 NBA Championship team.

The Warriors quickly released a statement regarding Green:

“We are aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend. At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation.”

An NBA spokesperson referred BuzzFeed News to the Warriors' statement.

U.S. Women’s Soccer Player: Things Will Only Change With Olympic Gold

Ali Krieger, who will compete in her first Olympics with the U.S. Women’s National Team, spoke to BuzzFeed News about trying to make history, the Zika epidemic, and equal pay.

With the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro less than one month away, several athletes — most of them male golfers — have opted out citing concerns over the Zika virus, but not so for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT).

Having won the World Cup last year, they became the first women’s team to win three titles. And as they prepare for Rio, they now have their sights set another another milestone: Becoming the first soccer team ever to win Olympic gold directly after winning a World Cup championship.

BuzzFeed News recently spoke to Ali Krieger, one of the pillars of the USWNT’s defense, about how she’s preparing for the Games amid concerns over the Zika epidemic, as well as domestic issues regarding equal pay for soccer players.

After narrowly missing out on the 2008 and 2012 games, this will be her first Olympics.

Instagram: @akrieger11

Krieger, a 31-year-old Virginia native, was selected as an alternate for 2008 Team USA, and was unable to play in 2012 because of an injury.

“I was on the doorstep and now, after three tries, it’s finally happened,” she said. “Having this experience, suffering from injury and being unsure if I would make it back to the highest level, I’m ready to go and win gold for Team USA again.”

Tom Brady's Only Chance At Overturning Deflategate Suspension Is To Take It To The Supreme Court

$

At this point, the story is just about the particulars of labor law.

Doug Pensinger / Getty Images

If you stopped following the Deflategate saga long ago, here's where it stands now: No longer is the drama about the inflation levels of some footballs, but about the power NFL Commissioner Goodell has to suspend players under the negotiated collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and the next possible stop for this scandal is the United States Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals denied Brady's request to have the full federal appeals court hold a hearing regarding Goodell's four-game suspension, which the players' union has argued did not have precedent in the CBA.

Earlier this year, a three-judge panel from that appeals court ruled that Goodell was in fact, acting within the power allowed to him in the CBA, overturning a previous ruling in a federal district court in New York that sided with Brady and the NFLPA, vacating the four-game suspension.

At this point, the saga of Deflategate reads a little bit like a play-by-play of a tennis match, so here's the condensed version: Brady was suspended, Brady won on appeal, the NFL won on that appeal, and Brady was denied his next pit stop on the way to the Supreme Court.

Brady and the NFLPA have not yet announced if they will take this case to the Supreme Court — which, again, at this point is about precedents in the minutia of labor law — but in April, Brady and the NFLPA hired former U.S. Solicitor General Ted Olson. Olson has argued 62 cases in front of the Supreme Court.

In the meantime, Brady and the NFLPA can ask to have the 2nd Circuit's decision stayed, which would again suspend his four-game suspension. If the 2nd Circuit denies the request for a stay, they can ask the Supreme Court for a stay while it considers the petition to be heard by the highest court.

At this point, it is looking like it is time for the Patriots to make sure backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is ready to take the field come September.

Here's what the NFLPA had to say:

We are disappointed with the decision denying a rehearing, as there were clear violations of our collective bargaining agreement by the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Despite today’s result, the track record of this League office when it comes to matters of player discipline is bad for our business and bad for our game. We have a broken system that must be fixed.

We will review all of our options carefully on behalf of Tom Brady and all NFL players.

Alleged Draymond Green Victim Says Fight Began The Night Before

The Sunday morning altercation between the Warriors player and an MSU football player started at a campus dive bar on Friday night, the alleged victim said.

The man who alleges Draymond Green slapped him early Sunday morning outside a bar said the argument first began at a different venue on Friday night when the NBA player belittled him after bumping into him.

Green, who plays with the Golden State Warriors, was arrested early Sunday and cited for simple assault, before he was released from jail on $200 bond.

The other man involved was Jermaine Edmondson, a football player at Michigan State University, which Green also attended.

East Lansing Police Department

In a statement given to East Lansing police, Edmondson said he was at the bar Rick's American Café on Friday night near campus, when Green "bumped into" him and then began talking to Edmondson's teammate.

"I asked who he was to think that it's okay to bump into somebody without saying excuse me," Edmondson told police. "He then said, 'I pay for n*ggas like you scholarships.' I then started to say, 'You have me messed up,' before I was choked out by two guys who were with him."

Edmondson said bar employees tried to defuse the situation, but Edmondson "heard [his] girlfriend yell" and learned "she said she was choked by another one of the guys who were with Draymond."

The next night, Edmondson said he saw Green again at another bar, Conrad's, around the corner from Rick's. Edmondson said that after the bar closed, he confronted Green on the sidewalk outside the bar and told him "last night wasn't cool."

"As he responded to me he began to poke me on my shoulder and I tell him that he doesn't need to put his hands on me, we can just talk. As I started to talk again, boom, I'm punched in the jaw," Edmondson said.

In the police report, a responding officer said that he was near Conrad's bar and heard "a loud slap sound" before Green and Edmondson began walking separate ways.

A responding officer wrote that as he was being handcuffed and arrested Green said "some excited utterances, including that he was sorry for slapping the subject and wanted to speak with him to make things right."

In a statement on Monday, the Warriors said they were "aware" of the arrest and were "collecting information" on the situation.
