FIFA Denies Reports It Told U.S. To Be Ready If Qatar Gets Stripped Of 2022 World Cup
The World Cup might be coming back to America. UPDATED.
According to Jorge Ramos of ESPN, FIFA called upon the United States to be ready if Qatar loses the 2022 World Cup.

Last month, FIFA president Sepp Blatter admitted that choosing "high-risk" Qatar as the host of the World Cup was a "mistake," and the international federation is currently performing an investigation into possible corruption surrounding Qatar's successful bid.
So far, five of FIFA's six main sponsors have publicly issued statements of concern relating to the Qatar bid, with Visa's Chief Marketing Officer Antonio Lucio stating that he would expect FIFA to take "aggressive action" if any of the claims proved to be true.
Meanwhile, Qatar has denied any wrongdoing, including claims of bribery. FIFA's report is set to come out next month.
Update - June. 12, 9:13 p.m., ET: Ramos has since deleted the original tweet and U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati has denied the report, according to Sam Borden of The New York Times.

This Stadium In Berlin Was Transformed Into A Giant Living Room For The World Cup
German soccer fans are being encouraged to bring their couches to the Union Berlin stadium to view World Cup matches!
World Cup fans in Germany transformed the Union Berlin stadium into a giant living room Thursday, packing the pitch with sofas to lounge on while watching the opening match between Brazil and Croatia.

Organizers estimate that 12,000 fans showed up at the home field of 1 FC Union Berlin for the first World Cup game. 780 sofas were registered and an estimated 3,000 watched from a couch on the field. End tables and lamps were also provided.

FIFA Suspends Beckenbauer For Not Cooperating With Investigation Into World Cup Corruption
A 90-day ban for the former Germany captain and coach.
This afternoon, FIFA suspended former Germany captain and coach Franz Beckenbauer from all football-related activities, at any level, for 90 days.

This ban was announced after Beckenbauer, who is an adviser to FIFA's football committee and a global ambassador for German club Bayern Munich, failed to cooperate with an ongoing investigation into possible corruption surrounding the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids, and reportedly refused "repeated requests for his assistance, including requests that he provide information during an in-person interview or in response to written questions provided in both English and German."
This news comes on the heels of a report that FIFA reached out to the United States to be ready if Qatar gets stripped of the 2022 World Cup. Although the U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati has since denied that report, it should be noted that Beckenbauer was a voting member of FIFA's executive committee in December 2010 when it chose Qatar, and Russia as 2018 World Cup host.

The Netherlands Just Embarrassed Spain On International Television
This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make a statement.
This afternoon soccer fans were gifted with a rematch of the 2010 World Cup Final: Spain vs. Netherlands. What actually happened was a murder. The Dutch killed the defending champions and strolled to an easy 5-1 victory in their 2014 World Cup debut.

After falling to an early deficit, the Dutch responded with one of the most beautiful goals in World Cup history when Robin van Persie made a diving header from the 18-yard box.
After that, it was all Oranje. And after three straight goals, the play-by-play announcer even proclaimed "Spain's embarrassment is complete." Less than 10 minutes later, Netherlands scored again.

The L.A. Kings Just Won The Stanley Cup
It went to double-overtime, but Los Angeles is the King of hockey once again.
The Los Angeles Kings are your Stanley Cup champions. After a 3rd period comeback, the Kings defeated the New York Rangers 3-2 in double-overtime en route to capturing their second Stanley Cup in three seasons.

After three overtime periods in the first two games, the Kings had a dominating 3-0 performance in New York in Game 3, only to fall inches short of a possible sweep with a 2-1 loss.
Now back in Los Angeles for Game 5, the Rangers carried a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period, but were hit with a controversial tripping penalty that led to the game-tying power play goal.
In the second overtime, it was Alec Martinez with the trophy-clinching goal for the Kings.

A 13-Year-Old Boy Protested At The World Cup Opening Ceremony But You Didn't See It
Werá Jeguaka Mirim protested on behalf of the country’s indigenous population.
According to Brazilian news site G1, a protest took place at the opening ceremony, but the TV cameras ignored it.

The site reports that Werá Jeguaka Mirim was one of three children who released white doves just before the kick-off of the first game, between Brazil and Croatia.

As he left the field, he opened a banner calling for new boundaries for Brazil's indigenous lands. Pictures of the boy's protest were posted on the Comissão Guarani Yvyrupa (CGY) Facebook page.
The Guarani are an indigenous people from South America's interior. The CGY describes itself as "an autonomous political organization that brings together the Guarani people of the villages located in the South and Southeast of Brazil in the common struggle for land."
There is currently a new law called PEC 215 being debated in the Brazilian legislature. It would transfer the power to demarcate their ancestral lands from the federal government to Congress, and has caused protests.

This Soccer Player Just Celebrated A Goal With An Awesome Dedication
I mean, this is the world’s biggest stage.
In the second half of the Uruguay-Costa Rica game, Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell shot a laser into the back of the net to even the score 1-1.
And like most World Cup goals, this one was followed by a celebration. Campbell scooped up the ball, tucked it under his shirt, and then proceeded to suck his thumb — a possible nod to his girlfriend, who is believed to be pregnant.
There have been speculations that Campbell's girlfriend is pregnant, but nothing has yet been confirmed. This is perhaps his way of announcing it.
Campbell then went down on his knees and gave two salutes before kissing his ball baby.
