10 New Zoolander-Style Poses, Including "Bewildered Giraffe" And "Slow Elevator," Demonstrated By Actual SI Swimsuit Models

BuzzFeed tested the raw modeling ability of two Sports Illustrated swimsuit models — Hannah Davis and Sara Sampaio — by having them come up with fictional signature poses on the spot.

Macey J. Foronda / BuzzFeed

Sara Sampaio is a Portuguese woman who quit karate, developed an addiction to Papa John's pizza, and is now one of the most sought-after models in the business after making her debut in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show this past year.

Hannah Davis is an American model from the Virgin Islands who used her stilt-walking skills (no seriously, she used to put on a costume, paint her face and walk on stilts at carnivals) to launch her into campaigns with Victoria's Secret, American Eagle, Tommy Hilfiger and Levi's. You might also recognize her as the DirecTV Genie.

This year they both posed in New Jersey beach towns for the 50th anniversary of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, and this week they visited BuzzFeed to promote the issue. They both deftly deflected our leading questions about what it was like to get sent to New Jersey instead of, like, the Carribean or space. (Sampaio called Cape May "so cute" and Davis praised the "miles of beautiful beaches" where she was able to go surfing after work). Also:

What did you think about New Jersey before you went there?
Sara Sampaio: Snooki.
Hannah Davis: Snooki.

And then they were gracious enough to test out several new signature modeling "looks," a la Blue Steel, that we had developed in the BuzzFeed Modeling Laboratory, which is next to the snack room.

This program is interesting to watch mostly because it shows how far the sport has come. There are so many doubles in this program, which skaters these days wouldn't get very far with. But it's also a very athletic and lovely skate.

Age at the time: 19

Mistakes: 1 maybe 2

Standing: 1st after the short program.

Triples landed: 2
Total no. of jumps in this program: 9
Double axel; double axel; double salchow (meant to be a triple); double loop; triple toe; double axel; triple salchow; double lute; double flip

Spins in this program: 4

Most interesting commentator quote: "I don't know whether it's nationalistic bias or not but this crowd has not warmed up to Annett Potzsch."

Miami Dolphins Fire Offensive Line Coach And Trainer Implicated In Bullying Report

“This is an opportunity and a teaching moment not only for the coaches, staff, and players in our locker room, but also for participants throughout sports,” said Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

The Miami Dolphins have fired offensive line coach Jim Turner and head athletic trainer Kevin O'Neill. These are the first punitive measures taken since the release of an NFL investigator's report last week that claimed several examples of bullying and workplace harassment happened within the organization.

The team announced the moves Wednesday afternoon, five days after both men were implicated in Ted Wells' explosive report.

"The language and behavior as described in the Ted Wells report are against the core values of our organization," Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. "After receiving the report, I conducted my own internal review of the facts to determine the appropriate steps for our organization.

"Jim Turner and Kevin O'Neill are good people who care a great deal about their profession and the players whom they serve, but both exhibited poor judgment at times which led me to this conclusion. … This is an opportunity and a teaching moment not only for the coaches, staff, and players in our locker room, but also for participants throughout sports."

In a statement, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said he agreed with Ross that "the language and behavior outlined in Ted Wells' report was disappointing and unacceptable. … It is not possible for a team to accomplish its goals when the fundamental values of respect are violated. That ultimately rests on my shoulders and I will be accountable moving forward for making sure that we emphasize a team-first culture of respect towards one another."

Turner had finished his second season with the Dolphins. O'Neill, who previously was named recipient of the 2013 Tim Kerin Award for Excellence in Athletic Training. had been with the team for 18 years.

Wells' 144-page report found that linemen Richie Incognito, John Jerry, and Mike Pouncey engaged in a "pattern of harassment" of fellow linemen Jonathan Martin and Andrew McDonald, and an assistant trainer.

The report said Turner was aware of some of the harassment and even took part in some of the abuse, including buying McDonald a male sex doll as a gag gift around Christmas 2012. Turner told investigators he didn't remember the incident, but investigators said they didn't believe him.

Additionally, Turner was also accused of pressuring Martin — who was hospitalized after leaving the team — to release a statement that would clear Incognito and other players.

The report also found one of O'Neill's assistants, who was born in Japan, was the target of abuse and racial slurs from Incognito, Jerry and Pouncey. O'Neill "allegedly even laughed at some of the racial insults" and never intervened, according to the report. The report also claims that O'Neill cut short an interview with investigators and "expressed hostility toward our investigation."

Philbin and the front office were not aware of the players' mistreatment of Martin, McDonald, or the assistant trainer, the report determined.

Baltimore Ravens Star Faces Assault Charge After Allegedly Knocking Fiancée Unconscious

TMZ has obtained video of Ray Rice dragging his limp fiancée out of a hotel elevator. Rice and his fiancée Janay Palmer were both arrested and charged with simple assault Saturday.

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice faces an assault charge after allegedly striking his fiancée and knocking her unconscious during an altercation last weekend, according to Atlantic City police.

Rice and Janay Palmer were both arrested and charged with simple assault Saturday following their argument at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. The charge is punishable by up to six months in jail.

TMZ has obtained video from that night showing Rice dragging an unconscious Palmer out of an elevator in the casino and then laying her on the ground. She appears limp as he pulls her legs away from the elevator's doors, and then he props her up.

Police said the couple refused medical attention and didn't report any injuries to police.

Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, confirmed to the Baltimore Sun that the video is "not the complete event, but is merely the end result of what transpired."

"We are confident that by the time all of the facts are in the open, the public will have a complete and true picture of what actually transpired, and we just ask that the public remember what a high-character, good person Ray is, and that they reserve judgment until all the facts are out."

The summons for Palmer says she struck Rice with her hand.

A Ravens spokesman told the Sun: "We have seen the video, this is a serious matter and we are currently gathering more information."

The 27-year-old Rice has been been one of the club's top players in recent years, though he's coming off an uncharacteristically unproductive season — 660 rushing yards and four touchdown on 214 carries — by his standard. Rice has no previously history of off-field trouble.

The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly thinking of signing Jason Collins to a 10-day contract, which would make the 35-year-old free-agent center the NBA's first active openly gay player.

ESPN.com reports that Collins recently went through a private workout for the Nets in Los Angeles earlier this week. Nets general manager Billy King confirmed that report Thursday.

Asked to share the feedback he received on Collins, King said: "He's in shape."

"He's one of the names on the list," King said of Collins. "We will look at anybody that's a free agent that's big that's out there. We're looking at any guys that are free agents and he's one of the guys. But we've got other guys that we'll look at."

"We're going to look to add a guy," King said, "That we feel will help us."

The Clippers also have interest in signing Collins, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News .

Tim Bontemps of the New York Post added a few details about Collins' chances of catching on with the Nets and Clippers:

Why Ashley Wagner Is Wrong About Figure Skating

$
0

It’s OK to question your sport’s judging system; it’s not OK to pander to mass media at the expense of good sportsmanship.

AP Photo/Bernat Armangue

The American skater who ended up in seventh place yesterday is all over the news this morning saying she feels cheated — actually, "gypped" is the word she unfortunately used. Wagner is already known for the face she made when she got a low score during the team competition earlier in the games. Now she's publicly questioning the sport's judging system.

All the stories say Wagner skated two very clean programs, landing all of her jumps, and never falling. It's true that she didn't fall, but she certainly didn't skate cleanly as anyone who knows the sport could see. In the short program she touched her second foot down on her triple toe. In the long program she two-footed and under-rotated the landing of her crucial opening combination.

Before the scores even came in commentator Tara Lipinski noted, "To the audience it may look perfect, but when the judges go back and examine those landings she's going to lose a lot of points."

"A few shaky landings, a few issues here and there, landing on two feet," said Johnny Weir. "But it wasn't a flying endorsement of Ashley Wagner."

Weir used the word endorsement because her selection for the U.S. Olympic team was surprising after a poor performance at Nationals — an unofficial qualifying event for the American team — where she finished fourth and fell twice. But the skating association sent Wagner to the Olympics because she has more experience in the international competitive circuit than skater who finished ahead of her, Mirai Nagasu.

Wagner's skates at the Olympics are certainly a huge personal victory after all that doubt and pressure. Taking her bows after the long program, she was celebrating like she had the skate of her life. And her performances were fun to watch and both good ones — but just because she didn't fall doesn't mean they were great. And it doesn't mean, as she is suggesting, that she deserves to place higher than other skaters who did fall, especially when those other skaters landed more difficult jumps more beautifully than she did. Her remarks are poor sportsmanship — and seem to be a campaign to change the sport to favor those who don't take risks.

"People don't want to watch a sport where you see people fall down and somehow score above someone who goes clean," she told the Los Angeles Times. "It is confusing and we need to make it clear for you."

Dumbing down skating this way to create a fan base would make it boring. We should want just the opposite of what she's suggesting: A sport where someone can fall down and still score above someone who skates clean. Because when Mao Asada falls on a beautiful triple axel, a jump only five or six women have ever landed in competition, but skates the rest of her program beautifully, she is a badass.

And in fact, the current judging system has been criticized because it does sometimes favor those who skate clean, less-difficult programs. When American Evan Lysacek beat Russian Evgeni Plushenko at Vancouver in 2010, Lysacek's perfect program with eight triple jumps was judged more favorably than Plushenko's more-wobbly program with a quad and seven triples — and there was an uproar. That's a far more valid concern about the judging system than Wagner's, which seems to be "I should have placed higher because I didn't fall."
